About Us
Middle Tennessee Percherons is a group started by two cousins who raise and show Percheron draft horses in and around Middle Tennessee. Both cousins have farms in Lincoln County, Tennessee, and regularly show horses at county fairs and competitions in Middle Tennessee, Northern Alabama and surrounding areas.
What are Percherons?
The Percheron breed originated in France in the Middle Ages. Percherons, like other draft horses, were originally bred to carry knights into battle. The heavy armor the knights (and the horses themselves sometimes) wore required a stronger horse. Today the horses are prized for their beauty, strength, and easy temperament and are typically raised as show animals and as riding horses.
Percherons are most commonly either black or gray, and an adult can weigh as much 2,600 lbs. Percherons live on average 25 years. In 2003, an eight-year-old Percheron gelding named Goliath was confirmed as the tallest horse in the world by Guiness World Records. Goliath measures 19 hands, 1 inch (or 6 feet 5 inches) at the top of his shoulders.
Eldad Percherons
Eldad Percherons is a farm operated by Bill and Pam Crabtree near Fayetteville, Tennessee. Here Bill is photographed leading a two-year-old mare, Cricket, back from the Best in Show competition at the 2006 and 2007 Lincoln County Fair. Cricket won, of course. Cricket is a foal of Blooming Grove Denver, our herd Sire until his death in 2006. Denver was a son of King Kong.

Fuss Hollow Percherons
Fuss Hollow Percherons is a farm operated by Mike and Pam Mills near Petersburg, TN. Mike and Pam are shown below next to Cricket's six-month-old brother, Conway. He took first in his class at the 2006 Lincoln County Fair.
